These paintings and videos are related to the Capelinhos volcano which erupted off the coast of Faial in September 1957 and remained active until October 1958. All of these works rely on photographs, movies and sound recorded by three family members - Alzira Simas, Padre Jose M. Neves, and Joe Alves - who, in their need to document, captured some remarkable images.
